“We surveyed the Cnap collections to extract a selection of known, strange or unusual pieces. We operated with the pleasure of an explorer who searches the remains of an unknown civilization to question its material culture. We wanted to stage this decisive stage where the archaeologist looks at the objects discovered and wonders what they say about the practices, aspirations and beliefs of a society. The works are thus brought together to compose four paintings: the Office, the Reception, the Playground and the Antechamber. The pieces form curious assemblies that face us and question. The carpet – the very symbol of interior comfort – covers the entire scenographic space and plunges visitors into a cosmos that has become oddly domestic. The pieces seem suspended in the universe. The atmosphere is silent, cozy. The floor is soft and welcoming. Strange ships float in space and convey our objects to an unknown destination. »
